How to setup VPN port forwarding on GL.inet routers

Step 1

Download your preferred VPN location on this link:


for this guide, we will select a Sweden-based server.


Step 2

Login to your GL.iNet router web panel, click VPN and then click OpenVPN Client.


Step 3

Click + Add Manually.


Step 4

Enter PrivateVPN for group name and then click the check mark.

Click Select a file or drag it here.


Step 5

Select the configuration file that you have downloaded and then click Upload (Open).


Step 6

Enter the following settings:

​Username: (your PrivateVPN registered email address)

​Password: (your password)

Click Apply button.


Step 7

Click … at the right side and then click Start.


Step 8

Verify your VPN connection via the Dashboard.


Step 9

Proceed to NETWORK and then click Firewall at the left menu. Click + Add button under Port Forwards.


Step 10

Enter the following settings:

Name: (any name would do)

Protocol: TCP/UDP

External Zone: ovpnclient

External Port: (ephemeral port used by your P2P app)

Internal Zone: LAN

Internal IP: (your end device IP address)

Internal Port: (same ephemeral port used by your P2P app)

Click Apply to save settings.
